Possibilities and Impossibilities in the Bible: Time-bound and Foreordained

Our awareness on things that exist teaches us two definite things: possibilities and impossibilities. Possibilities are positive. They make us think, prepare, work, and plan on expected eventualities. Impossibilities, on the other hand, are negative. They erase expectations, make us decide definitely, and worse, sometimes make us not to think anymore and dismiss everything associated with known impossibilities.

The Holy Bible, as a book written many millennia before our time, is a book that teaches us possibilities and impossibilities. A reckless reader may at once judge ignorantly that the Bible is unscientific, full of errors, fictitious, and unacceptable to the scientific mind!

There are things written in the Bible that at first glance may appear to be non-sense to one but intriguing to others. Having an evening and morning on “the first day” of creation, for example, while the sun and the moon were yet to be made on the fourth day is very easily dismissed by the enemies of the Bible as something stupid and unscientific!

GENESIS 1:3-5

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

In the aforementioned verses, there isn’t any problem, but on Verse 14 of the same chapter, the Bible says –

GENESIS 1:14

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: the stars also.

17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

The common question that comes from common understanding of people reading these verses is this: How can there be an evening and morning on the first day when the sun and the moon were made only on the fourth day?

And thus, a prejudicial judgment is rendered upon the one and only book on this planet that describes the origin of its existence and the teeming multitude of life in it!

Possibilities and impossibilities - incidental, scientific facts, (discovered and yet to be discovered) must be collectively considered in order to pass on a fair and equitable judgment upon the Bible before concluding that it is unscientific or not.  Possibilities must be considered in harmony with past, present, and expected possibilities in the future, in the same manner that impossibilities - past, present and future - can be used as tools in analyzing the recorded stories, histories and beliefs written in the Bible.

Some possibilities recorded in the Bible include -

The appearing of dry land from a globe of waters.

The appearance of light from utter darkness.

The existence of vegetation in the absence of the sun.

The putting of lights in the firmament to light upon the earth on the fourth day of creation.

The earth bringing forth vegetation and animal life.

The waters bringing forth aquatic life and fowls of the air.

The creation of man from the dust of the earth.

Man living an age for almost a thousand like Methuselah.

Producing a living being with the same materials from the host.

Grafting a branch of a plant with the same species, and many more…

Meanwhile, some impossibilities are –

      For God to lie.

      To produce humans from animals.

To produce another specie from a given one.

For the universe to be ever expanding.

For the universe to start from a bang.

For the light to have communion with darkness.

For the universe not to be in perfect order.

All of these are time-bound and foreordained. In the first, it means things came to be on account of time. In the second, it means someone decreed them to be so – and unalterably so. Let us go to judging - as it is connected to judging the Bible, or judging truth.

Open-mindedness is a must for a judge. A wise judgment considers possibilities and impossibilities and even sometimes instincts in humans.

A very famous judgment rendered in the Bible is when Solomon commanded that a child be cut into halves when two supposed mothers were claiming the same child.

I KINGS 3:16-27

16 Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.

17 And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.

18 And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.

19 And this woman's child died in the night; because she overlaid it.

20 And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.

21 And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.

22 And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spoke before the king.

23 Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living.

24 And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.

25 And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.

26 Then spoke the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.

27 Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.

In the preceding verses the king considered possibilities and impossibilities before rendering judgment. The possibilities were: 1) Either of the women is the mother; 2) One is telling the truth and the other is telling a lie; 3) Both of them love the child; 4) One loves the child and the other does not. 5) One of them is involved in the exchange of babies. And other possibilities.

Considering the period wherein they lived, the impossibilities were: 1) DNA test; it was not possible. 2) CCTV cameras to review who really overlaid the child; they did not exist before; 3) Witnesses to the incident; no one saw the culprit; and 4) Two mothers: the child can only belong to one.

But the wise king harnessed maternal instincts to know the truth and to render absolute judgment. In the absence of evidence and witnesses, the king utilized the God-given instinct of a mother to her own flesh: she would not have her child be sawn in half.

Let us journey back in time and consider past possibilities and impossibilities, as well as consider future possibilities and probabilities after which we can conclude if really the Bible is fictitious, a fairy tale, a book written by stupid people, or the most exact scientific book of all times. Here is the assurance of the God of the Bible who cannot lie.

ISAIAH 46:9-10

9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,

10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

TITUS 1:2

 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

HEBREWS 6:18

That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

Atheist Lucban has stinking mouth

The Bible speaks thus -

PSALMS 14:1-3
1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
2 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.
3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Not one among those who do not acknowledge God's existence was found to have understanding but all are filthy, "there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”

This same people according to Apostle Paul have stinking mouth!

THE ROMANS 3:13
Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:

The following is an atheistic manner of refuting the author of this blog:

Eli Soriano wants to prove that ALL MEN CAME FROM ONE BLOOD and uses the article of LIVESCIENCE.COM as a BASIS to PROVE THE existence of Biblical EVE. In Short, Eli Soriano and his idiot followers believe that EVE lived 200,000 years ago! HA HA HA.

Surely, atheists' throat is an open sepulcher stinking with their insult to persons and to the God of all God-believing people on earth, more or less 5 billions of them!

There's NO GOD and If there is, WITH THAT CREDENTIALS I MENTIONED ABOVE, He's INCOMPETENT in MANAGEMENT and a GREAT IDIOT and he doesn't deserve the respect of an EDUCATED HUMAN BEING.

Toto Onato, you have a comprehension problem and that makes you an IDIOT. And yeah how crazy that the author is using "scientific estimate" of 200,000 years to prove EVE and disprove evolution whereas the bible states that the FAIRYTALE EVE was just created by the IMAGINARY GOD 6,000 years ago. HA HA HA!

No part of the contested blog states that I and my followers “believe EVE lived 200,000 years ago!” This Jeremy Lucban merely added these words. How dare!

The reference that follows were what we used to prove a fact written in the Bible long, long ago before the recent discovery in the science of microbiology about DNA and genes.

We may notice in the above reference that even the author of such finding is not exactly sure of the age of what he calls "Mitochondrial Eve,” as "likely lived about 200,000 years ago"!

To a thinking reader, (Of course not like Jeremy Lucban), the word "likely" is not exact! In grammar, in poetries, in legal terms used in courts of law, and in the Bible, the word "likely" is used to imply uncertainty!

The fact that the author, Eli Soriano, is taking from such reference is the irrefutable scientific finding that all men came from one ancestral woman! Whether such woman lived 200,000 years ago or 6,000 years ago is immaterial to the intent of the author!

But if it is true that mitochondrial DNA can be used to trace the maternal line of ancestry up to 200,000 years, it is logically truer that it can be exact to only up to 6,000 years! Is this idiocy and not logical thinking?

I like chicken. Chicken is real, nutritious, delicious, and chicken essence - scientifically speaking - can improve some functions of the human body. But the author of this blog, does not take everything out of a chicken, as real as it is! I do not eat feathers, even the bones, it is meant for the dogs!

I wonder why there are people (like Jeremy Lucban) who choose the bones which are meant for dogs, and the feathers of the chicken which must be thrown away by an "EDUCATED MAN” - not only scientifically but nutritionally!

This atheist is accusing everyone that believes the Bible to be an idiot, and throwing the Bible and all truths written in it! For him, the Bible is a fairytale.

But what does the fairy tale book (bible) say about the Mythical biblical Eve? When did Imaginary God actually create Eve?

The Bible tells us, “respect your father and mother.” Is this fairy tale?

GOOD NEWS BIBLE
EPHESIANS 6:1-2
1 Children, it is your Christian duty to obey your parents, for this is the right thing to do.
2 " Respect your father and mother " is the first commandment that has a promise added:

Respect everyone.  So this is fairy tale?

GOOD NEWS BIBLE
I PETER 2:17
Respect everyone, love other believers, honor God, and respect the Emperor.

Because for them these are fairy tales, they do not have respect to people much more those who believe in God!

The Bible tells us before it was actually discovered by man, that the earth is spherical in shape or round. This is fairy tale for atheists!

ISAIAH 40:22
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

The Bible says "Love your neighbor."

MATTHEW 22:39
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

You cannot expect atheists to love, because for them all these teachings are fairy tales! Even true and exact sciences written in the Bible are regarded as fairy tales by atheists.

REVISED STANDARD VERSION
DANIEL 1:8-15
8 But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king's rich food, or with the wine which he drank; therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself.
9 And God gave Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the chief of the eunuchs;
10 and the chief of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear lest my lord the king, who appointed your food and your drink, should see that you were in poorer condition than the youths who are of your own age. So you would endanger my head with the king. "
11 Then Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hanani'ah, Mish'a - el, and Azari'ah;
12 “Test your servants for ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink.
13 Then let our appearance and the appearance of the youths who eat the king's rich food be observed by you, and according to what you see deal with your servants. "
14 So he hearkened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days.
15 At the end of ten days it was seen that they were better in appearance and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the king's rich food.

Daniel is a prophet - not a nutritionist.  Normally even an educated person in our times (with our advanced knowledge in science) will not think that foods for kings may defile the body. Daniel, however, guided by the Spirit of the Creator, knew the health benefits of vegetables or "zêrôa‛" (which means live foods) that may boost his and his companion’s health.

So, this scientific information in the Bible is fairy tale for atheists! How laughable!  Mind you, there is laughter that is sarcastic like that of Jeremy, but our laughter is genuine because we do not mean to insult anyone! Sometimes we laugh at our beloved children when they speak totally out of ignorance but we do not mean sarcasm.

Unlike this atheist, not only taunting the Bible as fairy tale, but feeding words into my mouth. Be wary!

The Antiquity of the Earth: Biblical or Scientific?

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” This is the most read part of the Bible because it is the very first verse of the very first book of the Bible. “And the earth was without form and void….” This implies that at this moment in time the heavens were already formed and inhabited but the earth is yet to be formed. Can we find a proof in the Bible that the heavens were already formed and inhabited while the earth is yet to be formed?

JOB 38:4-7
Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

There were already sons of God shouting for joy when God started to lay the foundations of the earth. These sons of God are angels who were created and have been in existence before the foundation of the earth.

LUKE 20:35-36 (Revised Standard Version)
But those who are accounted worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage,
For they cannot die any more, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

Angels and other beings like the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders are some of the inhabitants of heavens.

REVELATION 12:12
Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

Moses in his inspired writing did not elaborate on how the “heavens” were created and were filled with inhabitants but something is sure: the heavens were not made in a 24-hour day period.

When God created the heavens, there were no angels yet! Logic dictates that before God created man, he prepared first his dwelling place. The heavens, which would be the abode of angels, were created first before its inhabitants. We must not forget at this juncture, that when God began forming the formless earth, the heavens were already formed and not empty!

Another thing to consider is that God had His “works of old” before He formed the heavens and the earth! This may not be known to most doctors of theology but it is written in the Bible.

PROVERBS 8:22-31
The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.
When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.
Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:
While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.
When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:
When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:
When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:
Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;
Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.

One of the oldest works of God is “His earth” where He dwells with His son! Here is another Biblical logic: God worked first on His and His son’s dwelling place.
The abode of God is not our earth but “His earth,” one of His “works of old”.

JOHN 14:1-3
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

If the abode of God where He would dwell with His people is this earth like the claim of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, then the Lord Jesus should not have said that He will go and prepare a place for the elect and come back to receive them, that where He is, they may be also! The abode of God is a place that was created and prepared by God before the foundation of our earth.

MATTHEW 25:34 (CONTEMPORARY ENGLISH VERSION)
Then the king will say to those on his right, ” My father has blessed you! Come and receive the kingdom that was prepared for you before the world was created.

There are those who say (like the Seventh Day Adventist Church) that the earth and the entire universe are just a little over 6,000 years old, created within seven 24-hour day period. Some even assert that God does not create gradually.

ISAIAH 66:8
Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.

The preceding verse negates the idea that the earth was made in a literal 24-hour day. How misinformed these people can be!
